There is a small anchorage in downtown Georgetown, SC, which is situated along the ICW where the Black and PeeDee Rivers meet. From offshore Georgetown is located on Winyah Bay. If you anchor downtown you will find a small dinghy dock (see pictures below) with no signs posted restricting access to shore. The downtown anchorage is picturesque in that it faces the town docks and riverwalk with restaurants, shops and local color. Anchoring in Winyah Bay is not recommended due to the strong currents and murky water. There are some very shallow areas, so please pay attention to the charts, especially at night. Georgetown is known as the Sportfishing Capital of the South, with many tournaments and fishing charters leaving for offshore and the Bahamas. Georgetown Landing marina is a great place to rest for a few days. The bathrooms and all facilities are new and clean, and there is a really good, reasonably priced restaurant at the end of the dock. Georgetown is known as the Sportfishing Capital of the South, with many tournaments and fishing charters leaving for offshore and the Bahamas. Georgetown Landing is the Sport Fishing center of activity, and believe me, Sport Fishing for these folks is serious business. Georgetown has some local history and a quaint, if small, downtown riverside area with boat tours and some good restaurants. Getting around is best by bicycle, although downtown is within walking distance. A local Food Lion, Walmart and Post Office are about 3 to 4 miles away. Internet can be accessed through a courtesy phone line in the dock office. Osprey Marina is on the east side of the ICW at statute mile 373 and ICW marker R "26". Clean, new, a bit far from civilization. For a more complete guide to the city, check out these websites:
