Camanchee Marina    Camanchee Island, St. Augustine, Fl. On the ICW at the Vilano Bridge.

Ortega River Boat Yard     4451 Herschel St. Jacksonville, Fl. (904) 387-5538. Ortega River, just past the Ortega Bascule Bridge, North of Fuller Warren Bridge (I95) in Jacksonville.  Rates: Daily: $.50/ft, Weekly: $3/ft, Monthly: $7.50/ft for live aboard. Showers, Laundry, Ice, Fuel, Pump out, Mechanics, Haul Out, Hull Painting and repair, Mast Step/Unstep, Complete Parts dept., Phone jacks for internet hookup.

We stayed at Ortega River Boat Yard for a week and enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and professional staff and facility. We found: competent, knowledgeable and friendly mechanics, very clean, private restrooms and showers, good book and magazine selection and clean, new machines in the laundry room. There are lots of stores nearby for basic needs, including a super Publix supermarket. They recycle aluminum cans. Although this marina is not on the ICW, we mention it here because of its optimal location and facilities. Its just off the St. John's river and adjacent to downtown Jacksonville, where you can tie up for a few hours and sightsee. Furthermore, its quite a ways up river, making it a good place to weather out a hurricane without anchoring out. Its economical rates make staying for a day or two a real treat.

St. Augustine Municipal Marina    111 Avenida Menendez, St. Augustine, Fl. (904) 825-1026. South Side of Bridge of Lions. Rates: Hourly: $4-5/hour., Daily: $1.05/ft, Weekly: $5/ft., Monthly: $10/ft. Concrete floating docks, fuel, oil, ice, pump out station, showers, laundry, boater's lounge, ships store, mechanical and electrical service, fuel filtering and dive service available.

Please check out Sights along the ICW for info about St. Augustine. It is a shame to miss seeing this great town. If you prefer to anchor out, you can dinghy in to the marina for $7 a day. There are few other places to tie up, which is why the high premium. Also, do not anchor too close to the seawall near the city, when it is low tide many vessels end up high and dry. Towards the middle of the basin is best.
